Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo scored after eight minutes to help his team beat host nation Russia 1-0 at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow on Wednesday.

Ronaldo and his teammates are now top of a congested Group A ahead of Mexico’s match against New Zealand this evening.

The 32-year-old reigning Ballon d’Or holder’s build-up to the tournament in Russia has been overshadowed by accusation of defrauding the authorities of 14.7 million euros ($16.5m) in tax through offshore companies.

But more glory in Russia will end any doubt about him winning a fifth Ballon d’Or.
