A 28-year-old man, Folorunsho Sewedo has been remanded in prison custody by an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly beheading a 70-year-old man, Seth Mensah.

Sewede, who resides in Badagry area of the state, was arraigned on a two-count of conspiracy and murder.
Testifying against the accused, Police Prosecutor, Inspector Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the 28-year-old had committed the offences on May 26 at about 9.00 a.m. at Komah bush, Mosafejo in Badagry area of the state.

Uwadione told the court that the accused had “severed the head of the deceased and also chopped off his two palms with a knife before he was apprehended.”

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 223 and 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

When the charges were read to his hearing, Sewede pleaded not guilty.

Following his plea, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ikoyi prisons pending the legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

Consequently, Adelaja adjourned the matter till August 28 pending legal advice from DPP.
