Environmental experts have said the reason why Nigeria has not been able to tackle malaria scourge effectively was because the country priotises malaria therapy which can never lead to the solution of getting rid of the menace as against malaria prevention.
They also added that Nigerians have created comfortable habitats for mosquitoes to breed due to the neglect of sanitation practices in the country.
Against this background, the Andelsta Limited, through its Initiative for Prevention of Malaria (IPM), in collaboration with the Ministries of Environment and Health, would be launching National Mosquito Control and Liquid Waste Management Programme on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
The Director General, Engr. Fintan Ibeshi, made this disclosure at a press conference in Abuja.
According to him, “for so long a time we have ignored sanitation, even the most basic sanitation practice in the country have been ignored for so long. We find it difficult to wash our hands, clean our houses as it’s used to be at the 70s, and so it is a big issue.
“Looking at a problem that can be tackled at the prevention aspect, that every one of us personally and collectively can easily handled before you go into therapy. I think it so easy to prevent than to treat, but what we find in our society today is that we are all dealing with treatments and cosmetics pattern that cannot lead us to solution.”
Ibeshi revealed that the strong desire by the Aldenstine group to come into a system that have been eroded with not just technology, but also personal sanitation and hygienic practice, and the zeal to provide with a clean environment spurred the company into the advocacy campaign on the need to observe basic hygiene.
