J.I.D. finally returned with his new album DiCaprio 2. The Dreamville recording artist recruited some big names for the project.
J. Cole showed up on the previously released “Off Deez.” A$AP Ferg, Method Man, Joey Bada$$, BJ the Chicago Kid, 6lack, and Ella Mai also contributed to DiCaprio 2.
Some of J.I.D.’s followers wondered why the Atlanta emcee chose to release his LP on Monday which cut off three potential days in first-week sales tracking. He responded by tweeting that first week sales are “kool” for superstars like Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Nicki Minaj, but that’s not his main concern at this point in his career.
“I’m not playing the game they want me to play, we doing this sh*t our way and letting the people have the music how we see fit, I’m excited for Dicaprio 2, the level of sh*t talk I produced on ‘Slicktalk’ is unparalleled, I tapped in on this project,” wrote J.I.D. on Twitter.
This is a different view from what the 2018 XXL Freshman expressed earlier this year. Back in June, J.I.D. suggested he would be paying attention to the number of units moved in the first week.
“This is DiCaprio 2. I got goals for it. I ain’t gonna say exact numbers, but I just hope it does well when it comes out, first-week type sh-t,” he told Mass Appeal. “If not, I’m gonna be disappointed in the whole Hip Hop community, if I don’t do the numbers that I need to do. Facts.”
